Countdown Begins as UOK is to Host First Ever Intl. Congress on 'Kurdish Elites'
Monday, 01 07 2019
The University of Kurdistan (UOK) is set to make history hosting a highly-anticipated international congress on "Kurdish Elites", widely known for their years-long invaluable service to Kurdish culture and identity.
Groups of dignitaries and invitees from across the globe are arriving in the city of Sanandaj for what is expected to be one of the most high-profile events held in the provincial capital's recent history.
The UOK's Mowlawi Grand Hall will serve as the venue for the grandiose opening and closing ceremonies of the two-day congress scheduled to run as of July 2. The international event has been organized by the Kurdistan Governorate-General Office as well as the Provincial Department of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in association with a host of other government institutions, including the Department for Management and Planning.
To be honored in the event, according to the organizers, are 30 acclaimed figures of Kurdish origin as well as five others from across the world, who are known for a lifetime dedication of their career to the Kurdish identity.
The meticulous selection, according to a special committee tasked with the process, has been a months-long, tremendously fastidious procedure, involving working groups specializing in such fields as literature, art, agriculture, sciences, humanities, and medicine. The majority of the internationally-recognized notables are based in Iran, Iraq's Kurdistan Region and Turkey not to mention those living an expat life across European states and elsewhere.
The congress will cover a wide variety of events ranging from poetry reading nights and literary circles to music concerts and multiple art exhibitions, where light is to be further shed on how the selected figures served the Kurdish culture and the wider global community, in science, culture, politics, economy and entrepreneurship. Further, on the sidelines a film by a renowned Turkey-based director will hit the silver screen at the city's central Bahman Theater. Certain events are already underway well ahead of the inauguration and will continue to remain open to the public up to two days beyond the closing ceremony.
