The department of Civil Engineering officially started it activities in 1994. This is when 35 Associate’s students in Building General Affairs were admitted to study at UOK and two years later, the department started having BS students in Civil Engineering.
Extending its activity horizons, the university offered some other fields of Civil Engineering in the Master’s Degree; Structural Engineering in 2007, Earthquake Engineering in 2008, and Water Resources Management in 2013 and the very first PhD students, studying Structural Engineering entered the department in 2013.
The Scientific Society of Civil Engineering
The Civil Engineering Scientific Society of the University of Kurdistan started its activities in 2010. It has well-flourished among the other societies of the university as well as in the national level. The society has got the honor of winning the third grade among 21 universities around Iran in the international competition of Concretes with High Resistance in ACI, i.e. the American Concrete Institute, becoming a member of the national Scientific Research Organization of Civil Engineering students and being a member of the holding committee of the international competitions for Powerful Concrete. It has also held the Truss Structure competitions for three times and won great levels in national Pasta Structure competitions. The society has also held numerous courses for the students of the department, such as courses around civil engineering software (ETABS for example), welding and concrete technology workshops, etc.

Faculty of Engineering
The principal aim of the Faculty of Engineering is to create a friendly and creative learning and research environment that best matches the particular needs of students
The Scientific Society of Specialty Concretes:
The scientific society of Specialty Concretes is a newly established one which mainly focuses on lightweight concrete.

The Scientific Society of Engineering for Environment:
This society, mainly known as EforE, was first established in 2015 by some of the students of the faculty to serve as an interdisciplinary one for every engineering student. EforE significantly focuses on sustainable development and it is supposed to fulfill goals such as:
•    Feeding creative suggestions related to the environment
•    Improving the students’ knowledge around environmental issues
•    Holding gatherings and doing researches around engineering and the environment

One year later, to pave the way to reach its goals, the society published a leaflet named “Zhin Yar”; a mixture of two Kurdish words: “zhinga” for environment and “andazyar” for engineer. EforE is wholeheartedly open to have any engineering students as one of its members.
