Department of Plant Protection

  History

Department of Plant Protection was established in 2005 and started to offer Master of Science programs in Plant Pathology and Agricultural Entomology in 2007 and 2009, respectively.

Objectives

Finding solutions for disease and pest problems of numerous plants including grain, forage, vegetable and forest and fruit trees. Principle aims of the Department are:

- Identification of plant pathogens.

- Population genetics of plant pathogens.

- Etiology and epidemiology of plant diseases.

- Identification of plant pests.

- Physiology, ecology and population dynamics of plant pests.

- Identification of biocontrol agents of pests and diseases.

- Managment of plant diseases and pests.

The Department enjoys a reasonable level of facilities for education as well as research including laboratory of Mycology, Plant Diseases, Entomology and Plant Pests and well equipped glasshouse.

Future Prospect

The Department has also been sponsoring two PhD students in the field of Agricultural Entomology (Acarology and Ecology) whom are expected to join the Department in the near future. Besides, the Department is already in the process of offering two scholarships to PhD students in the field of Nematology and Molecular Resistant to Plant Pathogens.
