Horticulture

  Horticulture is the art and science of growing (including organic and sustainable production) fruits, nuts, vegetables ornamentals, herbs, spices and medicinal plants "garden or yard culture." UOK's Horticulture program trains students in many aspects of plant science including physiology, nutrition, identification, pest control and Landscape and garden design. By carefully choosing electives, horticulture students can broaden their background in international agriculture, business management, education, journalism, and many other physical or biological sciences.

Our Mission

  The mission of the Horticultural Department is to develop and disseminate new knowledge through student education leading to the improvement and facilitation of cost-effective and profitable production, postharvest handling, and utilization of horticultural commodities and services in a concerted effort to conserve natural resources while protecting and enhancing the environment. 

History

Department Introduction:

  Welcome to the Department of Horticultural Science at Kurdistan University. Horticultural department of Kurdistan University has been established over 10 years ago (from 2003).  The department offers BsC degree in horticultural science and MsC. In pomology.  Graduate students will get enough experience to work on their own in out door and or green house crops production. They will have opportunity to work with group, independently or be employed by Ministry of Agriculture. The mission of our department is to provide innovative teaching and research in Horticultural Science, to transfer new knowledge for the purpose of educating students, improving the productivity, value, and use of horticultural crops including fruits, vegetables, Medicine plants  and flowers. The Horticultural Science Department offers a four year degree program to educate and to train undergraduate students in Horticulture with emphasizing on the production technology of Horticultural crops. Our Department also offers a M.Sc. Program that provides an advanced degree in Horticulture that focuses on the physiology, postharvest, ecology and biotechnology of Horticultural crops to enable our postgraduate students to be competitive in the labor market and to conduct dynamic research in the various areas of Horticulture industry.
